PHOTO WESTON
Over the last 6 months we worked on some fantastic projects, one key one for us was the printing for 2 exhibitions in Weston-Super-Mare as part of PHOTO WESTON 24, a photography programme that cultivates collaborations between local community groups and internationally celebrated photographers.
The first of which shown at The Gallery alongside Nigel Poor’s San Quentin Project, was a work in progress from ‘The Prison Mobile Library’ a series of scrapbook excerpts, thoughts, experiments, collage and research enlarged as A3/A4 pigment prints on our Ultra Matt paper.
“Supporting incarcerated people to develop and publish first-person stories, using photography and creative writing.
While every prison contains a library, how many of the books have been written by authors with direct experience of incarceration? What would it mean to create a library of books created by those imprisoned, speaking directly to those facing the same challenges?
The Prison Mobile Library is a collaboration between IC Visual Lab, Bristol Photo Festival and Weston College. Through a series of workshops, we are inviting imprisoned individuals across three prisons (HMP Bristol, Dartmoor & Exeter) to create new stories, using photography and creative writing. The results will be published, available from participating prison libraries, and displayed as part of the festival (details to be announced Summer 2024).”
The second Exhibition ‘Estuary’ is the outcome of a community focused collaboration between likeminded photographers exploring their personal connections to the landscape around the coast of the Severn Estuary in Weston-Super-Mare, curated by Jem Southam.
The selection were printed in various sizes again on Ultra Matt, but we were also able to try out using self adhesive paper stocks, that can be mounted straight onto the gallery wall.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are planning to put on an exhibition and need assistance, we can help you from start to finish, from scanning of negatives, editing and prepping your files as well as printing and framing.
